DOWN AT THE STATION is an illustrated history of New England Railroading seen through the medium of antique picture postcards. The book follows Southern New England's Railroads in all their various routes as the nineteenth century gave way to the twentieth. Each chapter combines a brief informative history of a rail line with folklore, stories, and anecdotes with a few tall tales.
Individual postcards are reproduced full size and the book is filled with captivating histories, anecdotes, stories and more.
The text is accompanied by 2 antique maps, one from the 1850s and the other from 1910 to allow readers to track the development of New England's rail system and its consolidation from individual shortlines into the mainlines which shaped the modern world.
